作品制作のきっかけとなったのは、文具店で偶然出会った一冊のノートブックである。アルファベットのAからZまでのインデックスがついたクレールフォンテーヌ製のノートブックを手に取ったとき、その場で直感したのは「これを台紙として昆虫標本作りのようなアルファベット集めをしたら楽しそうだ」「様々な印刷物からアルファベットを切り取ってきて、AのページにはAとaを、BのページにはBとbを、CのページにはCとcをというふうに貼り付けてみよう」ということだった。私はその思いつきと好奇心に素直に従うことにし、早速「アルファベット集め」を始めたのだった。

　ノートブックは計９６枚の紙からなっており、AからZまで（IJ、XYは同一ページ）、アルファベットごとに異なった形状の紙でできている。それぞれ紙には角の取れた小さな台形（インデックス部分）が飛び出した形をしている。そしてその一枚一枚には薄い青色の５mm方眼が刷られているので、方眼一マスにアルファベット一つを貼り付けていくというルールを決めた。では私が実際にどんな作業をしたのか、例えばaを集めたい場合には、まず印刷物からaを見つけるたびに丸錐でくり抜いていく。ここで得られるのはaが印刷された細かな紙片であり、そのaフレークはa専用のケースへ収納する。最後に、ニードル、筆、でんぷん糊を使い、ケースから取り出したaフレークをAのページに貼り付けていった。

The inspiration for this project came from a notebook I happened to find in a stationery store. When I picked up the Clairefontaine notebook with an index from A to Z, what immediately came to mind was, "It would be fun to use this as a base and create something like an insect specimen collection with alphabets." I thought, "Let's cut out alphabets from various printed materials and paste 'A' and 'a' on the A page, 'B' and 'b' on the B page, 'C' and 'c' on the C page, and so on." I decided to follow this idea and my curiosity, and I began the "alphabet collection" right away.
The notebook consists of a total of 96 pages, each with a different paper shape for each alphabet from A to Z (IJ and XY share a page). Each page has a protruding, small trapezoidal section with rounded corners (the index part). Additionally, every page is printed with a light blue 5mm grid, and I established the rule of placing one alphabet in each grid square. To illustrate the process, if I wanted to collect 'a,' I would first use a hole punch to extract it every time I found it in printed materials. This would yield small paper fragments with 'a' printed on them, and these 'a flakes' would be stored in a dedicated case. Finally, using a needle, brush, and starch glue, I would take the 'a flakes' from the case and paste them onto the A page.
